Egyptian MP hailed Tunisian decision to achieve gender equality

Cairo - Egyptian parliamentarian Fayka Fahim called upon the Egyptian authorities to achieve gender equality in inheritance and all other issues, hailing the decision taken by the Tunisian government to take the achieve equality between men and women.

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi launched calls for gender equality in marriage and inheritance on Tuesday during marking the Woman's Day in his country to raise a state of controversy among Arab and Muslim clerics not only in his country but also in the region as whole.

Egypt's Al-Azhar, on its hand, criticized the calls adopted by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi for gender equality in marriage and inheritance, saying that such calls are not in line with Islamic Sharia.

Fahim said that the Egyptian government should take the same approach to empower Egyptian woman, saying that the Egyptian woman suffered a lot for decades from discrimination despite the important role she performed in different fields.
