Cairo - Speaker of Egypt’s parliament Ali Abdel Aal met with Tokyo’s Governor Yoriko Koike on the sideline of his visit to Japan.

During the meeting, the Egyptian official underlined the similarity between both Cairo and Tokyo, saying that both cities have in common a great history. He expressed his appreciation of the role performed by the Japanese official to support parliamentary relations between the two countries as shown in the Egyptian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Society, praising the current level of cooperation between the two countries.

Adel Aal expressed his aspiration to increase cooperation between Cairo and Tokyo in the framework of a Consensus Agreement signed between the two cities, stressing the need to benefit from Tokyo’s experience to resolve their traffic problem, as well as implementing waste recycling. He mentioned that the Egyptian government is currently working to establish a new administrative capital, during the coming period, to reduce the negative effects of over-population and heavy traffic in Cairo.

On his hand, Egyptian Member of Parliament Osama Haikal said that Koike served as president of of Egyptian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Society until last year, saying that she received her education from Cairo University. He revealed that the Japanese official expresses deep appreciation to the role performed by Egypt, stressing her keenness to turn Consensus Agreement signed 25 years ago into force.

The Japanese official stressed that her country is keen to support the experience of Japanese school in Egypt, saying that they will increase the number of these schools during the coming period.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abdel Aal invited the Japanese official to visit Cairo as soon as possible as they exchanged souvenirs
